German left the AccorHotel Arena with the gold medal !
🇬🇧 Spain and Germany made a great tournament, still undefeated they had to fight for the gold medal in the opening of the 1/8 of finals played in the beautiful AccorHotels Arena. Spanish started well this final thanks to efficient plays, they seemed to feel very confident and had an early win. But the german didn’t want to leave Paris without this gold medal. They came back at the end of the period tu finish just one goal behind their opponent. After the first 20 minutes, Spain was leading 9-8.
The second round is played in a final rhythm, both teams played their best to take the lead, but the level of the two teams are very close and none of each managed to make a break during this period. Still, the german seemed to gain confidence and start winning the mental battle. Before the last round, germans and spanish were tied at 17-17.
The last 20 deciding minutes are dominated by the Germans, they finally made a break in the first moments of the final round. The spanish tried to make a come back, but played too fast. They took early shots without good positions and the goalkeeper was concentrated enough to block a lot of them. In offense, the germans still managed to score, what made the come back of Spain even harder. Strong in their head, the Germans won this beautiful Mondialito. Congratulations to the twelves nations who gave us great entertainment during this week and to the Germans for their victory.

« We could have change our defense. Maybe being more compact would have give them difficulty to score. We lost today but I’m very proud of my players, we made a great tournament but today the germans were better physically. »
Mamadou LAMINE DIOUCOU, ESP (player )
« I am very disappointed of my game tonight, I felt very great along this tournament but today I was from my level. Germans did a great tournament also, and today we lost the physical battle. »
Carsten KLAVENH, GER (coach)
« We feel great to win this tournament, with so many nations. If you are in final you don’t need motivation because players do t themselves, we tried to give them few more solutions and I know that my team won’t loose their head, so I told them to stay in the game, keep their head up because 4 goals in handball is nothing. Spain is a great team and I’m sure we gonna face each other few times again. »
Ian Weber, GER (player)
« It was a great tournament, a great experience for all of us especially for because it is my first international tournament, I think the lives and the social media were great because of our family and friends were able to follow us and see what we are doing here. I can’t describe how we felt about playing in this arena. We hope to come back here in the next years. »
